Spring 2021 COVID-19 Policy for Circles

*At the time of producing the Program Guide (February 2021), indoor group sports are not yet permitted by AHS and the City of Edmonton. Updated rules/protocols will be provided closer to the start dates scheduled for June.
We have made adjustments to times, days, and participant capacity to accommodate public health measures. Fees have been adjusted to reflect the changes made. Policies will be evaluated a few weeks into the season, and adjustments may be made based on permissions from AHS and the City, and feedback from players.

Any club that is moving forward for Winter Programming will be called a 'Circle.' Drama, Card-Playing, and most Music Clubs are temporarily suspended until further notice.

The following points will apply to any circles resuming activity in the Spring:
  • Now applicable to ALL Circles -- Purchase a barcode to reserve your time slot until the end of the season. Timeslots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Participants must be CLSA members.
  • Please bring your own equipment for your activity. CLSA will not be supplying equipment for the Winter Term.
  • Everyone is required to wear a face mask as per the City Bylaw. Please bring your own: initially, we will have a small supply to share if you forget yours.

Our policies are based on provincial health recommendations for indoor distancing of high-aerobic activities at the time of writing (Februart 2021) and were created to ensure the health and safety of all sport-playing members. The policies were issued as a means of allowing sports to be relaunched safely at CLSA.

  • Due to the popularity of sports, please exercise good sportsmanship and share the limited spaces.

  • Doubles are allowed for sports; four players allowed per court (4 courts – 16 players total) per time slot for Badminton and Pickleball; 10 tables for Table Tennis). We encourage picking a cohort to play with for the season.

  • AHS considers pickleball, badminton, and table tennis to be high-aerobic activities. Face coverings can be removed while exercising once in designated areas but must be worn when moving between equipment. Therefore, a face mask is not required while on the court. Players must wear face masks in all common areas.

  • All players must have a CLSA 55+ membership to participate.

  • Players must arrive no more than 5 minutes before play time and must not linger in the building after play.

  • Players will be required to submit to a quick wellness check.

  • Players must come in their workout clothing as the locker room/shower/lockers will not be available.

  • Players must bring their own racket and ball.

  • Bring your water or purchase a bottle ($1) from the Fitness Centre. Water fountains will be closed.

Non- Sports Circles

Lapidary, Stained Glass

  • The schedule and fee have been adjusted to accommodate as many members as possible.

  • Due to COVID-19, the Silver Stage Drama Club has decided to postpone operations until the 2021 Winter season.

Waitlist Policy
If the activity in which you wish to register is full, you can be waitlisted. If there is a cancellation, we will contact members in the order received on the waitlist.

We encourage early registrations so that we can make adjustments to scheduling if necessary. If there is sufficient interest run a second course/activity (and depending on instructor or room availability) this might mean scheduling a second timeslot or moving to a larger room to allow for distancing.

Club FAQ's

What happens if my activity gets cancelled?

Did you know that it is program policy to cancel classes one week prior to the start date if there are not enough registrations? If it is necessary for CLSA to cancel a program, you will be notified prior to the program start date. In this situation, refunds or credits will be issued to your account. Courses may be cancelled due to low enrolment, extreme weather, instructor unavailability, and facility maintenance. Generally, no refunds or credits are given for programs, presentations, club, or Fitness Centre registrations unless cancelled by CLSA.

How do I join a club?

You will first have to purchase a CLSA Annual Membership. See our Membership page for eligibility details.
Each group has different operational times throughout the year. To stay up to date on club accessibility refer to our current Catalogue for dates, times, fees, and registration barcodes. Once you have purchased your CLSA membership, you can register in any club, provided it is not at capacity.  CLSA allows a one-time free drop-in to any club for interested members.

Why is there a registration fee and club dues?

The registration fee for a club is a consolidated price set out by the CLSA to cover room and/or amenity use as well as administration fees. We pride ourselves on offering amenities and rooms at prices you can not find at other facilities around the city. The club dues are a separate amount, unique to each club and are determined by the club coordinator to cover the cost of supplies and items specific to the club.

What if I just want to try out a CLSA club?

** Club Previews are temporarily suspended due to COVID-19**

All interested individuals have the opportunity to preview a club for a day. Some clubs offer the option of paid drop-ins. Fees range from $5–$10 per drop-in. If you are dropping in, you must have an active CLSA membership.
